3 semester hours of graduate level professional development credits from University of Massachusetts Global.
Today, educators are asked to do more and more without anything ever being taken off their plates. They are also being blamed for many of the ills in society and attacked for teaching ideas and concepts they aren’t even presenting. It is no wonder that educators can easily feel negative about their profession and for that negativity to rub off on their students. Cognitive Behavioral Therapist, Sue Varma, M.D. believes, anyone can learn to be optimistic. That optimism is 25% nature and 75% nurture. In this course, we will look at specific strategies teachers can use to create an optimistic attitude in their lives. They will learn how to assess their present attitudes and beliefs and then determine which strategies would be most impactful in creating an optimistic view in their professional practices as well as develop lesson elements and instructional strategies to support an optimistic belief in their students. As Dr. Varma talks about, optimism is a choice we can make in our lives and in making that choice, we dramatically improve the quality of our lives and those around us.
This course is appropriate for educators of all content areas and backgrounds at the K-12 levels.
