3 semester hours of graduate level professional development credits from University of Massachusetts Global.
Of the many challenges our students face today, “social media addiction” is one the that is negatively impacting their achievement in the classroom. “Social media addiction” is defined as compulsive engagement in social media platforms that significantly disrupts the users’ functioning in important life domains, such as interpersonal relations, work or school performance and physical health. In this course, participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the role social media plays in the lives of their students. How it impacts their behavior and emotional well-being as well as what the social media companies are doing to change the individual’s brain and “hook” them on their platforms. Participants will learn to recognize the behaviors of individuals with social media addiction and explore various ways of addressing this addiction.
