INPEACE’s Ka Lama Program or Ka Lama Education Program is a program at the Institute for Native Pacific Education and Culture. Ka Lama Education Academy implements a Grow Your Own Teacher program to support community members in their pursuit to become highly qualified teachers and existing teachers in their home communities through college support, mentorship, and professional development training.

Waianae Coast (Nānākuli Māʻili, Waiʻanae & Mākaha)

East Hawaii Island (Honokaʻa to Nāʻālehu)

Kauaʻi Island

Molokaʻi Island

Ka Lama services include:

  • Financial Assistance
  • Access to workshops (FAFSA, Money Management, Mini Lesson Planning, etc)
  • Professional Development and PDE3 opportunities

Hua Kaiāulu – College Attainment: We provide support for those interested and/or earning certificates/degrees in teaching and education. 

  1. Educational coaching.
  2. Financial Assistance (internal & external) for tuition and/or textbooks.
  3. Workshops

KA LAMA EDUCATION ACADEMY ENROLLMENT – Hua Kaiāulu

Session 1

January 1st – March (Third Friday of Month)

For FALL & SUMMER Support

Session 2

September 1st– November (Third Friday of Month)

For SPRING Support

Kumu Kaiāulu – Educator Development: We provide support to in-service teachers, who are seeking professional development training and career advancement.

  1. Career coaching.
  2. Financial Assistance (internal & external) for PD, PDE3, NBCT, etc. 
  3. Professional Development workshops that provide culturally relevant and STEM focused curriculum.

Enrollment Periods

                        Semester       

    July 1 – August 31 

                            FALL

December 1-January 31

                          SPRING

Eligibility requirements:

  • Native Hawaiian preference, but not limited to
  • Teach and/or live in Wai’anae, Ewa Beach, Kapolei, Moloka’i, Kaua’i and East Hawai’i Island.
  • Interested in the field of Education or Currently in the field of Education
  • Teach and/or live in the areas listed above (for a minimum of 3 years)
  • Interested in the field of Education
  • Currently in the field of Education

Participant requirements:

Attend mandatory orientation (dates TBD):

  • At time of enrollment for fall/spring/summer.
    • 1x per academic year for all returnees 
  • Attend at minimum 2 KLEA – hosted workshops per semester:
  • 1 of the 2 workshops will be a Hoʻoulu Waiwai hosted workshop.
  • Meet at minimum 2x (fall and spring semester) with your assigned Educational Pathway Coach and/or Educational Development Specialist (via Virtual Meeting or In-Person)
